ABOUT

Hi friends. I'm Mandey. Or, Mama Mandolin. Want to know where that name comes from? I was called Mama way before I was ever even a Mama. For a summer during college, I lived with a bunch of guys and was pretty much their mom; cooking, toting their sunscreen to the beach...I was henceforth known as the Mama. One afternoon, a couple of the guys and I were out for lunch and one casually asked me what Mandey is short for, "Mandolin?"(because obviously Mandolin is such a common name.) We all thought it was hilarious and the name just stuck.

From then on, I was officially known as Mama, Mando, or Mama Mandolin.

These days I'm a stay-at-home-mama (in the San Francisco Bay area ) to Julian and Isaiah, a couple of afro sporting toddler twin boys who are the essence of cool. I'm also wifey to the best looking web designer hunk, Chikeize, who makes my heart pitter patter, my eyes roll and my stomach ache from laughing. He's quite possibly the funniest human I know.

I started this blog when we moved to California (from Iowa) when I was pregnant, as a way to keep family and friends up to date on my pregnancy. It's slowly transformed into my main outlet of creativity and expression, a documentary of sorts and a place where all of the coolest people visit. I love this bloggy home of mine, I hope you do, too.

Here are some of the bigger moments of my recent history:
The Story That Started it All. - How Chikezie and I met.
A Unique Engagement - The day Chikezie proposed.
Two Pink Lines - The day I found out I was pregnant.
Two Circles = Twins - The day I found out there were two.
Our Wedding - The day we got married over a lunch break.
Julian and Isaiah's Grand Entrance - The day the dudes showed up.

  4. It's kind of weird how many parallel's I'm seeing between us, and I've only read a few of your blogs so far! I love your style!

I'm Ella, I'm 24 and from Toronto, Ontario. My partner, Colin and I have a son, Cassius, who is 9 months now. He's bi-racial like your little guys and just as cute! They even have some similarities looks-wise. :P

I read your post about your bio dad, which is also something I went through recently. Kinda weird.

Anyways, I'm going to keep reading. Have a nice day! :)

  12. Hello! I just found your blog link from the Black and White and Loved All Over blog. (Like you, I'm from a farm in Iowa and I'm married to a wonderfully beautiful black man.) I have two lovely interracial stepchildren and I wonder if I want to ever have a little bambino of my own. Your two sure do make babies look FUN! Enjoy the blessings that they bring you. BTDubs, we just spent time in sunny San Diego and Oceanside this summer~ oh! the weather. A bit jealous of the goodness of the ocean you have near you each day. Enjoy that blessing too. I'll look forward to your blog posts. Peace.

  30. Hi Mandey - A blogger friend of mine linked one of your posts on Facebook today and I stopped by. You are adorable, and I'm pretty sure I've never seen two more beautiful children in my life. I'm a Midwestern girl (Western Illinois - Galesburg, but now the Chicagoland area), mama of two boys, staying at home and trying to find my identity. I really appreciate your candor and sweet spirit. Adorable.

  32. Hi! Just came across your blog through Pinterest It was one of your posts about curly hair that originally caught my eye but when I saw you have twins, I just had to stop and read all about those handsome boys! I also have twins - a boy and girl, almost 8 months old - so I really enjoyed all your stories about Julian and Isaiah. Isn't it amazing how two babies born just one minute apart can be so similar yet so different at the same time? :)
