formula is for babies

Formula is lame.

I'm getting really tired of mixing it. And buying it. And just dealing with it in general.

I know it's suggested to switch to whole milk around a year..or is it Vitamin D? Are they the same thing?  I'll be paying a little extra for organic because that's what I buy for myself.

So, I'd like to know, trusty friends, when did you switch your babies over and what did you give them?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

  1. Vitamin D and whole milk are one in the same. I've heard a lot of moms starting to make the switch to milk around now. I think it has a lot to do with your boys' weight and iron levels. Though technically "they" say you shouldn't give cow's milk before 1 year.

  3. 11 months or so. as long as their tummies can handle it. if you do switch, mix it half and half at first, then slowly use less and less formula. my son really made the transition easily. they will if they are ready!

  7. I freaking hate buying formula!! One of the reasons I wish I had breastfed. Formula is soo expensive, i can't imagine having to buy it for twins. Kingston isn't drinking Vitamin D yet because they want to keep it on him longer. But we've tried it once and he hated it he just chucked him bottle across the room. So once you start to switch over my dr recommended we do half formula have milk until he gets used to it.

Love your new banner and the saying under it.

  8. LOVE Your new header...adorbes. And Charlie is one year at the end of this month (on 1/28), I mostly breastfeed, but I supplement with formula. BUT, I am almost out of formula and don't want to buy more. So I'm happy to be reading that 10 1/2 or 11 months is fine in many cases. I'll be switching to milk as soon as the formula is gone! How old are your twins?

  11. I started to introduce cows milk around one. Coralee never drank much ,and she still doesn't like it (she nursed until 20mo). Haakon took to it right aways and still drinks TONS, I'm pretty sure he drinks more than John and I, he also still nurses a few times a day.....I don't know where he puts it all :o

  12. DUDE. YOU'RE GONNA GET SO MANY PEOPLE COMMENTING ON THIS I BET. but honestly, go with your gut. not all babies are cookie cutter molded, and i know you know that. honestly, i started giving wyatt whole milk at 11 months because i knew i wanted to wean him soon and so i wanted him to get used to the "taste". i had so many people butt hurt about it though. i don't know how a baby MAGICALLY is more equiped to handle whole milk at 1 year rather than 11 months, or whatever months. it just depends on YOUR child. also, wyatt ate a ton of cheese and yogurt already, so i didn't really see a difference? people forget that too. like, it's okay to give dairy products but not milk? what's the difference. psh. anyway, go for it dude!

  14. We switched to organic whole cows milk right after their first birthday. We mixed the formula with the milk at first to use up the leftovers and make the transition easy and it was really super easy. We buy A TON of milk but it's way better than spending a bajillion dollars on formula. :)

    Good Luck!

  16. we started mixing whole/vit D milk at 11 months. at first, we mixed 1oz milk w/ their formula..then after a few days, increased to 2oz and so on...decreasing the amount of formula as we increased the amount of milk. then, by the time they turned one, it was pretty much all milk & no formula!
good luck making the switch...the grocery bill will drop DRASTICALLY!!! such a blessing!
