you are really dumb

So I was standing in line at Target today and a woman in line in front of me looked at the boys in the stroller and looked up at me and then back at them.

They were sitting there like good little boys, as usual, quietly sucking on toys, waiting patiently.

I was enjoying a few moments of silence and stillness in my life when the woman then looked to me and asked,

"Are these your babies?"

To which I replied, "Yep, they're all mine."

"Oh, wow they sure are a lot darker than you. I thought they were Mexican."

.....................................

*my blood starts to boil*

.....................................

*trying to hold my tongue*

...................................

NOPE CAN'T HOLD IT IN!!! HERE WE GO!!!!

"WOW. The race of my children is NONE of your business. They are gorgeous and I don't care how they look to you or anyone else for that matter. And you know what? You are SO rude...and that comment was extremely ignorant."

She just looked at me with a disgusted and shocked look on her face. My heart was pounding a mile a minute because I honestly don't think I've ever told anyone off in my life.

Then I was snapped out of my adrenaline rush by the woman in line behind me, "High five girl!" she chimed in as she glared at the lady in front of us.

The stupid woman turned around and didn't say anything more.

HONESTLY....people need to freaking THINK before they talk. Who has the balls to say something like that to the mother of two beautiful little babies?

Lay off, lady. You're just jealous we're better looking than you.

  2. ahhh....I deal with that too---sometimes from family members. We live in a small town, deep south...no fun. But in the end, I smile and am thankful that I don't fall victim to that type of ignorance or hate. I love all God's children, and he blessed me with two beautiful boys, and the best man for me because of it. He blessed you with the same. Kiss your husband and babies a few extra times...maybe she'll bite down on her tongue. :oD

  5. wow I never had anything like happen to me but I DO know my mom experienced that when I was a baby. People thought she was the Nanny. I am glad you said something people like that usually say what they want with no consequences.

  7. Wow. This may seem silly, but that actually brought me to tears. I'm so sorry you came across such an ignorant lady! You have beautiful babies and she should have kept her two cents to herself!!

  8. Good for you!!

Ignorance makes my head hurt...and when my head hurts, I usually say bad words.

I'm glad you didn't just let that go. I think it is important for us to stand up for ourselves and our children....especially in FRONT of our children!

    The dudes rock.

  11. Thank you for the support everyone! For a minute after I freaked on her I felt like I should have kept my cool but now that I look back I would have regretted not saying anything.

And I will admit, when I Chikezie got home tonight I got really worked up telling him the story...all shaky with adrenaline and a little teary-eyed just thinking of someone being like that to me and my kids in public really pisses me off.

  12. Hooray to you for sticking up for yourself and your amazing babies! It made me mad just reading what happened I can imagine how angry it made you. That lady is just jealous that she cant have two adorable curly haired boys like you! :)

  13. I get those looks too. My husband is mexican so my kids look nothing like me. But your babies are the cutest little twins I've ever seen! Why can't people just see that?

  14. Wow--I'm impressed! I don't have bi-racial children, but there are so many people I'd love to tell off who make ignorant comments about twins.

Also--before becoming a mama, I worked in the world of international adoption, so this comments offends me, as I'm sure it does you too, in that, because they don't look like you, they must not be "yours". The thing about it--you DID tell her that they were yours. So what if you did adopt them from Mexico, or where ever, they are still YOURS! Duh! People are stupid.

  15. Sorry, two comments in a row--even though your boys are too young to understand now, it's important that you stand up to people like that, so that as they get older, they see that people and comments like that shouldn't be and won't be tolerated.

    Great job, Mama!

  16. Wow. I don't think I would have handled that without lack of inappropriate words. Go you!

  17. People can be so inconsiderate. My middle daughter looks nothing like me - blonde hair, blue eyes vs my dark hair & eyes, & everyone (I mean everyone) is so quick to point it out. Grrr...

  18. People these days......I'm so glad you said something and that the other lady agreed! Your boys are precious!

  20. It amazes me the thoughts people have and even more so the lack of control they have between their brains and their mouth.
And you had the perfect comeback. And your boys are amazing!

  21. Heck yea, Mama! I'm SO proud of you. Your boys are lucky to have you.

  22. Ignorance and stupidity suck...especially when people suck you into their stupid world.

  24. Go you! I can't believe some people! There really is no thought into what comes out of their mouths! You do have two of the most seriously adorable little boys ever... and thats coming from a mama with two little men of her own ;)

  26. I have had this same thing happen to me with my girls. I can't tell you how many people have asked me if "they're mine". That is such a ridiculous, insane question... on so many levels. I am soooo proud of you for your response, and I totally get you "practicing" with your hubby for next time. I need to do that, too!

I've been dropping in, checking out the photo challenges, but I'm going to follow you now... the first article of yours I read today was about moving so far away from family (which I'm going to be going through in a few months. In a way, I'm excited, in a way it saddens me beyond belief). And then I read this article... we've got a lot in common, but I think you're a little braver than me.
